Ultrasound scans

Dr Kulothungan is trained in musculoskeletal Ultrasound scanning. He completed his post graduate training at the Bournemouth University and provides this service in both the NHS and private practice.  He has worked with Radiologists and gained vast experience in this field. He also teaches ultrasound scans and procedures to doctors and physiotherapists.

Dr Kulothungan can perform diagnostic ultrasound scans of all the skeletal joints, tendons and muscles in his clinic. This is particularly helpful to be able to diagnose tendinopathy, tendon tears, joint effusion (swollen joints), muscle tears, synovitis and tenosynovitis (inflammation of joints and tendons) and assess lumps and swellings.

Common joints scanned are:

  • Shoulder

  • Elbow

  • Wrist

  • Fingers

  • Hip

  • Groin

  • Knee

  • Calf

  • Foot and ankle

Dr Kulothungan also uses ultrasound to perform joint and soft tissue injections for accuracy and precision.

Please note that the spine cannot be scanned using an ultrasound.
